Responsibilities:

  • Weld components to print specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints and specifications to determine appropriate welding process.
  • Inspect completed welds to determine structural soundness.
  • Use of grinding tools to remove burrs.
  • Maintain acceptable attendance.
  • Follow safety procedures.

 Qualifications:

  • A high school degree or equivalency is required. A technical school welding degree or 2 or more years of MIG and TIG welding experience required. Work with steel and aluminum.
  • AWS certification in GMAW and/or GTAW per the D1.1 and/or D1.2 structural welding code, or an ability to pass the weld certification tests.
  • Ability to weld preheated parts from ovens using 030 to 045 wire.
  • Math skills including basic math, fractions, decimals, algebra and geometry.
  • Attention to detail to perform precision work, often with straight edges and minimal flaws. Ability to see details and characteristics of the joint and detect changes in molten metal flows requires good eyesight and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to operate manual or semiautomatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal standard operation and safety instructions.
  • Proficient at using welding gages to indicate parts and verify dimensions of a work piece.
  • Must be able to maintain tolerance and finishes to engineering specifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand a minimum of 7.5 to 8.5 hours a day.
  • Must be capable of handling 20 to 75 parts per hour.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry parts from 5 to 45 lbs. Occasionally up to 60 lbs. Hoists are available.
  • Frequent twisting, reaching, grasping, and bending.
  • Ability to see blueprints, measuring tools and paperwork. Ability to write to complete paperwork.
  • Must have a steady hand to hold a torch in one place. Workers must also have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Sit down work is available as an accommodation.

Work Environment: Often exposed to very hot materials and the intense light created by the arc. Safety shoes, heat-resistant gloves, goggles, masks with protective lenses, and other equipment is provided and must be worn to prevent burns and eye injuries.
